Staying anywhere from Burleigh down to Coolangatta? You’ve picked the quiet end of the coast — and we’re right in the middle of it. Coffee from 6am, a butcher, a fromagerie, a barber, a yoga studio and a courtyard you’re welcome to settle into. Come by and say hi.
Most visitors arrive at the Gold Coast and head north to Surfers and the theme parks. The southern end of the coast — Burleigh, Palm Beach, Currumbin, Tugun, Coolangatta — is the side the locals keep for themselves. Long, clean beaches. Headland walks. Small surf breaks. Quiet streets. And in the middle of it all, Cornerstone Stores: nine independent shops around an inward-facing courtyard, designed by Brisbane architects Richards & Spence.
What that means while you’re staying down here: a proper sit-down breakfast or lunch at Stable, regenerative meat from Locavore for the BBQ at the Airbnb, a bottle of small-producer wine and a wedge of cheese from Quince Cellar, a haircut at Lost Boys before the wedding, a yoga class at The Body Method to shake off the flight, and a few small retail boutiques worth a browse. All in one block opposite Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, with free parking and a dog you can bring along.
